Eve Johnson Houghton
Eve started training in 2007 and had a flying start with 22 winners and has continued on an upward curve ever since, consolidating her position as not only a leading lady trainer, but a leading trainer.
Following a tremendous 2016 season, which culminated in Accidental Agent winning the valuable Tattersalls October Auction Sales race, and Scarlet Dragon winning the Old Rowley Mile, 2017 has been another breakthrough season for Eve. She has already surpassed her best tally of winners, breaking the half-century, with Accidental Agent winning the valuable Totescoop6 Challenge Cup Heritage Handicap at Ascot, What About Carlo winning a Listed race at Newbury and Ice Age winning two highly valuable handicaps. At the time of writing, her strike rate in 2017 is an impressive 15%!
As a leading amateur jockey Eve rode 20 winners including the prestigious Ascot Diamond race twice. She rode for some notable trainers including Barry Hills, Roger Charlton and her father Fulke Johnson Houghton. She also rode in the Euro American Champion series with Chris Bonner representing England, where over a series of 8 races in England, Germany and the USA they were champions.
After working in Australia and London, Eve came back to work in racing, finally as assistant trainer to John Hills. During that time John had horses such as Group 1 winner Wind In Her Hair and Hong Kong winner Docksider, which Eve was very much involved with.
In 1999 Eve came back to Woodway to work for her father Fulke; renowned trainer of horses such as Rose Bowl, Habitat, Ile de Bourbon and Double Form to name but a few. They made a formidable team building the yard back up and in 2002 they bought a horse called Tout Seul together. He was bought for £12,000 and went on to win 5 out of 7 races as a 2yo culminating in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes.
